Exhibit shows Picasso's technical skill

MILAN, Italy, April 4 (UPI) -- An exhibition showing a different side of the painter Pablo Picasso's talents has gone on display in Italy.

The selection of 100 of Picasso's drawings and etchings that were used as book illustrations are being showcased in Milan's Fondazione Stelline until May 2, the Italian news agency ANSA reported Wednesday. While best known for his paintings, Picasso produced about 34,000 illustrations during his life.

The illustrations on exhibit include those he did for "The Metamorphoses by Ovid," a collection of tales about Ancient Greek deities. Another well-known set of pieces were done for Honore de Balzac's "The Unknown Masterpiece."

The show is an attempt to focus on Picasso's technical creativity in using aquatinting, drypointing, engraving and lithography to create his illustrations.
