LONDON, April 1 (UPI) -- The new "Dr. Who" series on BBC One in Britain has proved to be a success after 8.2 million viewers tuned in to watch the first episode.
The show stars David Tennant as the Doctor and also introduced Freema Agyeman as his new assistant, Dr. Martha Jones, the BBC reported Sunday.
In the new series, the Doctor will meet new historical figures, including Shakespeare and the Daleks.
The first episode of the new series revolved around a race of rhinoceros-like aliens, the Judoon, taking over a hospital after it was transported to the moon.
BBC One has also found a hit with "Any Dream Will Do," a show that is based around the search for the leading cast members of Andrew Lloyd Weber's musical "Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat."
