SANTA MONICA, Calif., March 29 (UPI) -- Talk show host Larry King, who's shown grit on- and off-camera, will receive the True Grit Award presented by the John Wayne Cancer Institute in California.

King will receive the award April 14 during the annual Odyssey Ball, which benefits the institute at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, the Orange County (Calif.) Register reported.

Since the Odyssey Ball began 22 years ago, the gala has helped raise more than $14 million to support the John Wayne Cancer Institute's cancer research and treatment programs.

"Larry King epitomizes the strengths and qualities that characterized my father, and for which the True Grit Award was created -- uncompromising integrity and a commitment to the values of our great country," said Patrick Wayne, chairman of the John Wayne Cancer Institute.
