NEW YORK, March 27 (UPI) -- Dan Mason, recently a consultant to New York-based CBS Radio, returns as president, a post he once had, replacing Joel Hollander, who resigned.

As president and chief executive officer, Mason will oversee the operations of CBS' 144 radio stations and report directly to CBS Corp. President and CEO Leslie Moonves, who announced the change, Variety said Tuesday.

"Dan brings with him a wealth of diverse experience and a true passion for the radio business," Moonves said. "He is a well-known and respected leader within the industry and our company, and his perspectives on how radio can thrive and grow in our highly competitive media world are very exciting."

Mason headed CBS Radio from 1995-2002, overseeing mergers of CBS, Group W, Infinity Radio and American Radio Systems groups during his tenure.

CBS Radio has struggled recently, hit particularly hard after shock jock Howard Stern bolted for Sirius Satellite Radio near the end of 2005.
