LONDON, March 22 (UPI) -- Lloyd Webber" class="tpstyle">Andrew Lloyd Webber used reality TV to find a Maria for his London production of "The Sound of Music," so he's dipping into the well again for a Joseph.
Lloyd Webber said he hopes to find the lead for the July production of his 1968 show, "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" through "Any Dream Will Do," The (London) Independent said Thursday.
He said a higher caliber of talent turned out this year after "How Do You Solve a Problem like Maria?," which won Connie Fisher the lead in the West End version of "The Sound of Music."
"We had a very tough choice to get it down to the final 12," he said. "(With) the boys, every one of the 20 singers were strong. They know a career is born from this show."
Lloyd Webber searched the streets and choir rooms for this year's contestants, and invited thousands of men to auditions in Cardiff, Belfast, Manchester and London.
The winner will emerge after the eight-week series beginning Saturday, in which the public votes for their favorite Joseph, with Lloyd Webber casting the deciding vote.
