NEW YORK, March 20 (UPI) -- Hollywood director Peter Bogdanovich was sued by a man alleging the director extorted money from him when he asked about helping his son enter the business.

The lawsuit, filed U.S. District Court in New York on behalf of Iaroslav Jivov, accuses the 67-year-old filmmaker of demanding $100,000 in return for employing Matt Jivov as a director's assistant on his next movie, E! News said.

Court documents said Bogdanovich and business manager William Peiffer agreed in 2005 that, for $100,000, Bogdanovich would hire and mentor the younger Jivov. Peiffer purportedly told Jivov that the Oscar-nominated director of classics such as "The Last Picture Show" and "Paper Moon" had two films in the works.

Jivov demanded the $100,000 payment back. He claimed Bogdanovich and Peiffer breached their agreement to refund his money if the films did not go forward -- which they didn't -- despite earlier statements that they would do so.

In addition to the original $100,000, the suit filed last week seeks compensatory and special damages.
