Varied ages like '80s-style films

LOS ANGELES, March 18 (UPI) -- Hollywood execs have learned that films taking their cue from the 1980s are drawing the interest of various age groups, a report says.

The New York Post said that upcoming films like "Transformers" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," both of which are based on cartoons from the 1980s, have children and adults clamoring to see the final adaptation.

"When we first started," "TMNT" director Kevin Munroe said of his film, "we did this survey, and I was shocked to learn that the interest level for the movie was just as high for 18-to-35-year olds as it was for 4-to-11-year olds."

No stranger to nostalgia, International Transformers Collectors Club Director Brian Savage offered his take on the unusual attraction that people have to the decade.

"Our bodies are programmed to remember the positive thing, these warms feelings," he said. "It's similar to going into your grandparent's house 10 years after the last time you've been there."

"TMNT" is due out in U.S. theaters this Friday, while '80s fans will have to wait until July 4 to see "Transformers."
