He played Mike Gambit in "The New Avengers," which starred Joanna Lumley and Patrick Macnee.

He also was known to television viewers for his series of Nescafe commercials, in which his handshake revealed the coffee beans.

His agent, Alexandra McLean-Williams, said Hunt didn't let on about the seriousness of his illness to those around him.

"He continued to work, and up until (New Year's Day) you would never have realized anything was wrong," McLean-Williams said. "He would have chemo one day and be on the golf course the next. The way he dealt with it was absolutely remarkable."

Hunt is survived by his wife and three sons.
