Jenna Bush writes book for teens

NEW YORK, March 7 (UPI) -- A book for teens written by U.S. first daughter Jenna Bush should be thought-provoking, not political, she said.

HarperCollins in New York said it will publish this fall Bush's "Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope," about a 17-year-old single mom in Panama living with HIV. It will be illustrated with photos by Mia Baxter, one of Bush's former classmates at the University of Texas.

The president's daughter, 25, said the book ends with a "call to action" and should get readers "thinking and involved," USA Today said.

Bush has been in Panama since September as an unpaid intern for UNICEF. "I'm aware that not all kids can pick up and fly to Panama. I'm very lucky," she said in a telephone interview Tuesday with USA Today.

The book developed from her UNICEF work to "put a face on statistics" and document the lives of children in Central and South America who live in extreme poverty, she said.

A tour of schools, libraries and bookstores is planned and Bush said she would participate.

"This is not about me," said Bush, a former public school teacher in Washington, "but the kids I met here."
