LOS ANGELES, March 6 (UPI) -- Despite reports to the contrary, California singer-songwriter Kenny Loggins doesn't consider his new "How About Now" to be a country album.
He did do the bulk of the writing for the set's 12 songs in Nashville, with Music City collaborators such as Gary Burr, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Radney Foster and Darrell Brown. But he said he prefers to think of it as "sort of 'Footloose' meets Loggins and Messina" -- referencing his biggest hit and his band with Jim Messina.
"It's not a country record, and it's not a rock record," Loggins said. "I just basically tried to capture that Loggins and Messina kind of country-rock vibe. It's not any one format right now, which has made it a little difficult to sell."
Loggins has released "How About Now" on One Eighty Music, the exclusive, in-house label of the Target chain. He is being inducted into the Hollywood Rock Walk on Wednesday.
