BEIJING, March 6 (UPI) -- Chinese actress Gong Li said she wants China's annual parliament, the National People's Congress, to consider the environment's future now.

"Things will become really terrible if we don't take environmental protection more seriously," Gong said during a break in the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference discussion, Variety reported.

The star of "Hannibal Rising" and "Miami Vice" was elected to the CPPCC, China's top political advisory body, in 1998.
