George Straight leads all with 8 ACM nods

NASHVILLE, March 5 (UPI) -- George Straight led all performers Monday with eight nominations, including Entertainer of the Year, for the 42nd Academy of Country Music Awards.

Strait also was nominated as Top Male Vocalist, artist and producer for both Album of the Year for "It Just Comes Natural" and Single Record of the Year for "Give It Away," along with Song of the Year for "Give It Away" and Video of the Year for "Seashores of Old Mexico," the ACM said Monday in Nashville.

Brooks and Dunn was right behind Straight with seven nominations, including Entertainer of the Year and Top Vocal Duo. Ronnie Dunn also received a solo nomination in the Vocal Event of the Year category for "I Don't Want To" with Ashley Monroe.

The group Rascal Flatts received six nominations and Carrie Underwood earned five nods.

Big & Rich received four nominations, with John Rich receiving an additional nod for producing Gretchen Wilson's single, "Politically Uncorrect."

Vince Gill, Josh Turner and Wilson all received three nominations.

The Dixie Chicks, who went five for five at the Grammys, were shut out of ACM nominations.

The award presentation will May 15 from Las Vegas.
