NEW YORK, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Rapper Busta Rhymes was rapped again in New York, this time for driving without a license less than a day after he appeared in court on assault charges.
Rhymes pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license and a related violation, and was released on his own recognizance, the New York Daily News said Friday.
Rhymes, whose real name is Trevor Smith, was pulled over Thursday morning after he allegedly ran a red light, prosecutors said. He reportedly left his vehicle and said to the police, "You hide behind the shield. This is (expletive)," prosecutors said.
Rhymes later said he thought the officers were thieves posing as police, the prosecutor's office said.
On Tuesday, a judge offered Rhymes a sentence of three years' probation, six months of anger management and three weeks of community service on charges of assaulting a fan and a former driver.
