Comic Relief drops 'Big Brother' housemate

LONDON, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Comic Relief dropped from its British telethon Jade Goody, one of the women who made racist comments against an Indian housemate on "Celebrity Big Brother."

Organizers filmed a spoof in which Goody appeared with comics Jack Dee and Frank Skinner, but decided to drop it from BBC One's "Red Nose Night" fundraiser, scheduled to be televised next month.

A Comic Relief spokesman said the sketch seemed "out of date" and Comic Relief was concerned it could distract attention from the biennial fundraising.

"Recent events have overtaken us and the show, which was recorded last November, now feels out of date," the spokesman said.

The charity telethon is part of Red Nose Day, which "is all about raising money and anything that could potentially detract from this is not helpful," the spokesman said.

Goody and several others prompted thousands of complaints from viewers for their behavior and racist comments toward Big Brother housemate and Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty. Goody said her behavior was bad, but that it wasn't racist.

More than 40,000 people complained to Britain's media watchdog about her comments.
