Sweden gets aggressive on net piracy

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Swedish police received anti-Internet piracy training from the FBI and a U.S. film organization in what officials said should improve Sweden's piracy record.

Sweden is home to The Pirate Bay, an Internet site that bills itself as "the world's largest BitTorrent tracker" and is supported by anti-copyright organizations. Many in the entertainment industry view Sweden as a haven for Internet piracy, The Local of Stockholm said Monday.

To counter this image, six Swedish National Police officers were trained by the Motion Picture Association of America and the FBI, as well as a number of Swedish experts in the field.

Marianne Hilton, head of studies at the Swedish National Police Academy, said the FBI and the MPAA were used because the organizations have "competence that we can use."
