Film to be made on Milli Vanilli

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Milli Vanilli, the pop duo that crashed when exposed as lip-synching frauds, are the subject of a film acquired by Universal Pictures in Los Angeles.

Jeff Nathanson will write the script and direct the film, and Kathleen Kennedy will produce it, Variety said Thursday.

Nathanson, who presented a sympathetic look at a check forger in "Catch Me if You Can," secured the cooperation of Fabrice Morvan, as well as the estate of Rob Pilatus, who died in 1998 as the pair were attempting a comeback.

Pilatus and Morvan were hired to front Milli Vanilli by producer Frank Farian, who already had songs recorded by other singers. The duo topped the charts, sold millions of records and won a Grammy by lip-syncing.

Pilatus and Morvan refused to promote their second album unless they could do their own singing, and Farian blew the whistle. Their Grammy Award was rescinded and class action suits were filed.
