STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Abba singers Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus took their 15-year-old dispute over authorship of the musical "Kristina fran Duvemala" to a Stockholm court.
Swedish dramatist Carl-Johan Seth claimed he wrote a script that was the basis for the play, the Local said Wednesday. Andersson and Ulvaeus countered that Seth's original script was so bad they hired other writers to start again from scratch.
Seth was listed as scriptwriter for the world premiere in Malmo in 1995, but has not been acknowledged since in any publicity for the musical.
The Abba stars signed an agreement with Seth, confirming that he was the author, one month before the premiere, the Local said. In addition, court documents said Seth received a payment of about $872,000, which Andersson and Ulvaeus said they paid to guarantee peace and quiet.
The Abba singers said they plan to launch a Broadway version of the musical. The case's outcome could affect earnings from a U.S. version.
