Actor Tige Andrews dead at 86

ENCINO, Calif., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Stage, screen and TV veteran Tige Andrews -- known to many as Capt. Greer on TV's "The Mod Squad" -- has died in Encino, Calif., at age 86.

Andrews was known to viewers of "The Phil Silvers Show," "Gunsmoke," "Marcus Welby, M.D.," "Kojak" and "Murder, She Wrote." When he played Kras on "Star Trek" it was the second-ever appearance of a Klingon, Variety said.

He received Emmy nominations for his role as Bodos in "The Big Valley" and for "The Mod Squad."

Andrews acted in Broadway and off-Broadway productions such as "Mr. Roberts" and "From Here to Eternity." He's credited for introducing the song, "Mack the Knife" in the original production of "The Threepenny Opera."

Andrews' film credits include "Imitation General," "Onionhead" and "China Doll."

Andrews, who died Jan. 27, was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, who died in 1996. He is survived by six children and 11 grandchildren.

Liz Claiborne taps Gunn for creative slot

NEW YORK, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Bravo's "Project Runway" star Tim Gunn has signed on as chief creative officer at New York-based fashion designer and marketer Liz Claiborne Inc.

His role will be to "return our culture to one that is friendlier to the creative process," Liz Claiborne Chief Executive Officer William McComb said.

"Tim will be a spokesperson for the creative community, a champion of product innovation, integrity and exceptional price-value and a catalyst for the creation of the irresistible product our consumers want and deserve," McComb said.

Gunn said he "jumped at the chance to serve as a mentor, adviser and sounding board for the design and merchandising community within Liz Claiborne Inc."

The "Project Runway" reality show takes talented but unknown designers and gives them a series of challenges that tests their ability to design fashion-forward wear, under intense time pressures and restrictions on what they can use. Gunn earned a following on the show.

Gunn also hosts Bravo network's upcoming "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style."


Marc Cohn to perform where he was shot

BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Grammy Award-winning musician Marc Cohn will perform in Colorado for the first time since being shot by a carjacker in 2005, it was reported Saturday.

The singer/songwriter was shot in the head during a botched carjacking attempt after a concert in Boulder, Colo., in August 2005, the (Denver) Rocky Mountain News said.

Cohn, 47, said he was a little anxious about Wednesday's appearance in Boulder even though "the chance anything like that happening again, especially where it's already happened once, are pretty slim."

He also has concerts scheduled in Breckenridge and Aspen, Colo.

Joseph Yacteen, 27, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder and was sentenced to 36 years in prison.


Alanis Morissette, Ryan Reynolds split

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Singer Alanis Morissette and actor Ryan Reynolds, seen recently together in Los Angeles and other cities, officially broke off their relationship.

"Ryan Reynolds and Alanis Morissette have mutually decided to end their engagement," their representatives told People magazine in a joint statement. "They remain close friends and continue to have the utmost love and admiration for each other."

Morissette, 32, and Reynolds, 30, reportedly split last June, but later were seen together in Los Angeles, New York and Vancouver, B.C.

The singer and the "Smokin' Aces" actor, both Canadian-born, met in 2002 and dated for two years before becoming engaged in 2004.
