Liz Claiborne taps Gunn for creative slot

NEW YORK, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Bravo's "Project Runway" star Tim Gunn has signed on as chief creative officer at New York-based fashion designer and marketer Liz Claiborne Inc.

His role will be to "return our culture to one that is friendlier to the creative process," Liz Claiborne Chief Executive Officer William McComb said.

"Tim will be a spokesperson for the creative community, a champion of product innovation, integrity and exceptional price-value and a catalyst for the creation of the irresistible product our consumers want and deserve," McComb said.

Gunn said he "jumped at the chance to serve as a mentor, adviser and sounding board for the design and merchandising community within Liz Claiborne Inc."

The "Project Runway" reality show takes talented but unknown designers and gives them a series of challenges that tests their ability to design fashion-forward wear, under intense time pressures and restrictions on what they can use. Gunn earned a following on the show.

Gunn also hosts Bravo network's upcoming "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style."
