Tyrese says he did not hit girlfriend

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- U.S. actor-rapper Tyrese Gibson has denied his pregnant girlfriend's accusation -- which she later recanted -- that he hit her during an argument.

"Please be assured that accusations of an alleged physical altercation between my girlfriend and me are absolutely false," he said in a statement, noting that charges weren't filed, Eonline.com said.

Los Angeles police were called to Gibson's home Jan. 4. Although Gibson had left, his live-in girlfriend was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated and released.

At the time, police said, she stated that Gibson had hit her twice. She showed no visible injuries and told hospital personnel her pain level was "zero" on a scale of zero to 10.

Several days later, the unidentified woman released a statement through her attorney saying she called 911 after becoming distressed during her fight with Gibson. She said reports that he became physical with her were "false."

"Mr. Gibson and his girlfriend are very much still in love, together and excited about their expectant child," attorney Paul Berra said. "She is quite saddened that this event was so distorted."
