Oater props rounded up for sale

SANTA FE, N.M., Jan. 26 (UPI) -- One production company's garage sale near Santa Fe, N.M., could be a movie collector's treasure trove.

After wrapping "3:10 to Yuma," a western starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, one of the movie's production companies sold props and set dressings Friday at the former state penitentiary, The Santa Fe (N.M.) New Mexican said. Anything not sold will be donated to Big House Props, a firm run by the state of New Mexico.

Among the more unusual red-tagged props was a chrome-and-enamel, wood-burning stove built in Colorado and used for a time in Belgium, set director Jay Hart said. Other items included a Victorian birdcage that housed a monkey in the film, "cowboy bathtubs," vintage saddles, saddle blankets, gun racks, cookware, glassware, utensils, apothecary jars, buckets, crocks and trunks.

Costumes weren't for sale, but clothing and accessories used in the dry goods stores were.

Hart said most of the props were bought in New Mexico.

Lions Gates Films' "3:10 to Yuma" is a remake of the 1957 film starring Glenn Ford and Van Heflin and is expected in theaters in October.
