Brown's children seek trustees' removal

AIKEN, S.C., Jan. 26 (UPI) -- The adult children of the late singer James Brown filed a petition in a South Carolina court, claiming Brown's assets in a trust are in danger.

In the emergency petition filed in Aiken County, S.C., the children asked that the trustees be removed, NME.com said Friday.

Brown died Dec. 25.

The trust, which is separate from Brown's will, manages Brown's music rights and estate, including his home on Beech Island, S.C.

The trustees denied any mismanagement. One trustee, Buddy Dallas, also Brown's attorney, said all trust matters were handled "appropriately and properly.

He said he was Brown's friend for 24 years, adding "I have never violated that trust for 24 years."

The petition comes on the heals of a clash between the late singer's attorneys and Tomi Rae Hynie, who said she and Brown were married, over Brown's will that omitted both Hynie and the 5-year-old son she said Brown fathered.
