NEW YORK, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- New York last year had a record number of shoots for movies, television, commercials and music videos, city film officials said.

The Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting said 2006 showed a 10 percent increase in filming time over the previous year, the New York Post said.

In 2006, there were more than 34,700 "shoot days," which counts the number of hours a crew shoots film. In 2005 there were slightly more than 31,500 shoot days.

Besides creating thousands of jobs, the shoots brought $2.4 billion in business to New York in the past two years, said Katherine Oliver, film office commissioner.
