Fox Sports adds duties for top execs

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Los Angeles-based Fox Sports has added to the responsibilities of its top two executives.

Bob Thompson was named president of the Fox National Cable Sports Network and Randy Freer was tapped to lead Fox Regional Cable Sports Networks, Daily Variety reported Thursday.

Thompson, currently president of Fox Sports Networks, will add the Fox Soccer Channels, Fuel and Fox Sports en Espanol to his portfolio of Speed Channel, three Fox college sports networks and the company's 49 percent stake in the Big 10 Network, debuting in October.

Freer, Fox Sports Networks CEO, will add local ad sales to the 18 regional sports networks he oversees. Combined, the regional networks have cable rights deals with 49 professional teams in basketball, baseball and hockey, plus contracts for live coverage of college games.

Both executives report to Tony Vinciquerra, president and CEO of the Fox Networks Group.

Thompson also will retain his title of president of Fox Sports International.
