NEW YORK, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Motown icon Dianna Ross, noting she hasn't seen the hit film "Dreamgirls," said she was happy about its success in U.S. movie houses.
The movie is viewed as a thinly disguised history of the Supremes, which vaulted Ross to fame. It won three Golden Globe awards, including the best musical/comedy prize.
"Maybe I should go see it with my lawyer," Ross commented on to Diane Sawyer on "Good Morning America."
"I've only heard what everybody else says, that it's very much my image and likeness," she said. "So if I've had an opportunity to influence any of these beautiful, talented young people, then I'm excited about it."
After the Supremes disbanded, Ross enjoyed a successful solo career. She branched into movies, capturing an Oscar nomination for best actress for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in "Lady Sings the Blues."
Beyonce, one of the "Dreamgirls'" stars, said she maintained a shrine to Ross in her trailer, and watched Ross's movies to help prepare for her "Dreamgirls" role.
The 62-year-old diva recently completed "I Love You," her first studio album in seven years. It is a collection of modern and vintage love songs.
