Actress Lindsay Lohan enters rehab

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan has entered rehab, one month after confirming she had been attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for the past year.

Lohan announced her decision in a statement issued through her publicist, Leslie Sloane Zelnik, TMZ.com reported.

"I have made a proactive decision to take care of my personal health," said Lohan. "I appreciate your well wishes and ask that you please respect my privacy at this time."

Lohan, 20, told People magazine in December she had been attending AA meetings.

"I haven't had a drink in seven days. Or anything. I'm not even legal to, so why would I?" Lohan said.

Lohan said she was attending AA to "find balance."

"I was going out too much and I knew that, and I have more to live for than that," she said.

The star of "Mean Girls" had her appendix removed earlier this month, and was hospitalized in September for a fractured wrist after falling while attending a Fashion Week event in New York.
