Globes honor Mirren, Nighy

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- HBO's "Elizabeth I" reigned during the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards Monday, walking away with three awards at the Los Angeles ceremony.

The portrayal of England's Virgin Queen claimed the honor for best miniseries during the annual awards recognition by the Foreign Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

"I had an incredible role," said Helen Mirren, accepting best actress accolades for her role as Elizabeth I, besting herself for her role in "Prime Suspect."

Completing the night was Jeremy Irons, earning a Golden Globe for his supporting role in "Elizabeth."

Bill Nighy received the award for best performance by an actor in a miniseries for his portrayal as the widowed father in "Gideon's Daughter."

Portraying Nighy's sullen daughter in "Gideon's Daughter" was Emily Blunt, who picked up the Golden Globe for the performance.

"This is a film that was very close to my heart," she said, adding it was a film that probably meant something to the viewer, whether a parent or a child.
