Jolie downplays Madonna comments

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Actress Angelina Jolie has attempted to downplay comments she made to a French magazine regarding pop singer Madonna's controversial adoption.

People magazine said that the Hollywood actress, who has adopted two children from Cambodia and Ethiopia, claimed that her recent interview with Gala magazine contained many falsehoods where the "Vogue" singer was concerned.

"I said many positive things that were omitted," Jolie said. "I feel we must focus on the present and I encourage everyone to be supportive so that every child can adjust nicely to their new home."

While Madonna has received positive reports from the Malawian child welfare officer assigned to her adoption of 1-year-old David Banda, she has remained a target of adoption and human rights groups.

Jolie, who is no stranger to controversy due to her relationship with actor Brad Pitt, offered Madonna her sympathy and wished the singer's new child the best possible future, People said.

"I have been horrified by the attacks she's been subjected to," Jolie said. "All that should count is the happiness of her little David."
