LONDON, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- British rocker David Bowie turned 60 Monday taking pleasure in maintaining a busy schedule full of music and films.

Born David Robert Jones in London in 1947, the "Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust" superstar has offered his talents in 15 films and had several record-breaking tours over his long career, the Daily Mail reported.

Despite his hectic lifestyle, sources close to the rocker admit that while Bowie is usually distant, he is always there for a friend in need.

"He'll get around to dealing with what he feels is most important in the pile and he'll always show up for a mate," a friend of the singer said, "but basically you join the queue. His energy level is off the scale."

The Mail said that despite undergoing major surgery in 2004 and having an estate said to be worth nearly $194 million, Bowie shows no signs of slowing down with recent roles in film "The Prestige" and on the TV series, "Extras."
