Angelina Jolie on Madonna's adoption plan

PARIS, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has said that Madonna's adoption of a 16-month-old Malawian boy is illegal.

"Personally, I prefer to stay on the right side of the law," Jolie reportedly told the French magazine Gala. "I would never take a child away from a place where adoption is illegal."

"Madonna knew the situation in Malawi, where he was born," Jolie reportedly said. "It's a country where there is no real legal framework for adoption."

Jolie, who adopted two children from Cambodia and Ethiopia, has not been the only critic of Madonna's planned adoption of 16-month-old David Banda, although on Friday, the Malawian government said it was happy with the care the boy was receiving while living with Madonna.

Jolie also told Gala that she felt sorry for Madonna about all the personal attacks she has endured.

"I have been horrified by the attacks she's been subjected to. All that should count is the happiness of her little David," Britain's Telegraph newspaper quoted her as saying.
