LOS ANGELES, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Hollywood actor Rob Lowe is staying on ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" after his guest appearances translated to higher Nielsen ratings.
Lowe plays conservative Sen. Robert McCallister on the primetime drama and was originally going to appear in just a few episodes, Daily Variety reported Friday. After the show matched its all-time ratings high with adults aged 18-49 during his first appearance Nov. 19, producers decided to keep his character for the rest of the season.
Lowe will be billed as a "special guest star" for the remainder of his appearances.
Lowe also played a politician in NBC's highly acclaimed series, "The West Wing." He will appear next in theaters in the thriller sequel "Stir of Echoes: The Homecoming."
"Brothers & Sisters" returns with new episodes Sunday night.
