LOS ANGELES, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Former Saturday Night Live star Chris Kattan proposed to model Sunshine Tutt in Gainesville, Texas, on Christmas Eve, People magazine reports.

In an exclusive interview, Kattan told the magazine he was going to do something special originally.

But the comedian said he ended up giving Tutt her engagement ring at her grandparents' house, wrapped poorly and in a "cheap box." The couple met at a party in Los Angeles and had dated since spring, 2005.

Kattan, 36, stars in the movie "Nancy Drew," slated for release this summer.

He and Tutt plan to walk down the aisle in 2008.
