The Police eyeing possible reunion dates

NEW YORK, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- The 1980s rock group The Police are said to be considering a series of reunion shows for later this year.

Billboard magazine reports that while the band's lead singer Sting has maintained a stance against any possible reunion over the last two decades, rumors have begun that the band may soon reunite for concerts in the United States and Britain.

With 2007 marking the 30th anniversary of the release of the group's top hit "Roxanne," the trio may be poised to reunite for the first time since they split back in 1986.

"Discussions have been underway as to how this will be commemorated," a statement posted on Sting's personal Web site said. "While we can confirm that there will indeed be something special done to mark the occasion, the depth of the band's involvement still remains undetermined."

Sting previously rejoined fellow Police alums, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland, for a brief set when the "Synchronicity" rockers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 2003, Billboard said.
