Rod Stewart among queen's honorees

LONDON, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Rod Stewart and Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter are among the Britons being recognized in the annual New Year Honors.

The various titles are bestowed by the queen to individuals who stand out in various fields.

Stewart is being honored for services to music while Zara Phillips, daughter of Princess Anne, is being recognized for her performance as an equestrian competitor, including winning the European championship.

The BBC said other honorees include Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam, actor Johnny Briggs, boxer Ricky Hatton, vacuum cleaner manufacturer James Dyson and John Scarlett, head of the MI6 intelligence agency.
