New Web site dares you to take risks

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- The new Web site DareJunkies.com, the creation of two California men, is set to challenge others to engage in stunts and share the results with the world.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the new Internet site from Ben Bacal and Daron Niemerow will allow risk takers a chance to gain instant notoriety for their risky behaviors while vying for cash prizes.

With the site's dares leaning more towards the shocking than the dangerous and prizes up to $5,000 available, Bacal said DareJunkies.com will have an instant appeal.

"This takes 'America's Funniest (Home) Videos' to the next level," he claimed. "It's outrageous and shocking like 'Jackass,' but not with people getting hurt."

With a reported 107.7 million people in the United States having viewed at least one Internet video a month in 2006 and with that number expected to grow, media analyst Allen Weiner claimed the new dare site is representative of a new Internet landscape.

"We'll start to see lots of companies come in with weird angles trying to build targeted communities for advertisers," he postulated. "We think there will be a land grab for the niches."
