HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- U.S. film actors Tom Cruise and Angelina Jolie have been named by "Access Hollywood" as the top newsmakers of 2006.

Using a calculation of how many stories were published about or centering on certain celebrities, "Access Hollywood" determined Cruise to be the top newsmaker, with 94 stories. Jolie came in as top female newsmaker, with 79 stories.

Other celebrities recognized on the news-making list for 2006 were Kevin Federline, Britney Spears, Katie Holmes, Brad Pitt and Paul McCartney.

"From nuptials and new babies to dancing, singing, and some sad splits, 2006 was a whirlwind year," said "Access Hollywood" executive producer Rob Silverstein. "I'm sure there will be much more to come from all these stars and top shows in 2007."

The newsmaker lists will be revealed throughout this week on Access Hollywood.
