LONDON, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- British fans of the Beatles are circulating a petition to have Ringo Starr knighted like Mick Jagger, Cliff Richard and fellow Beatle Paul McCartney.
Ringo's fans have made him the subject of a petition to Prime Minister Tony Blair recommending that the Queen consider him for knighthood. On the Internet, the petition can be located at: petitions.pm.gov.uk.
"Although one suspects that the newspaper columnist who launched the petition may have had a mischievous tongue in his cheek, it's already gathered hundreds of signatures," the Daily Mail reported Saturday.
The Mail noted that Ringo's drumming skills are being positively reevaluated thanks to the magic of new digital sound technology that allows his work to be heard more clearly.
Ringo is on vacation and has not responded to the petition.
