Sam Raimi beginning TV expansion

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Hollywood director Sam Raimi took another step towards expanding into television by naming William Hamm to head his Ghost House Television banner.

The head of the "Spiderman" film franchise picked the Universal Pictures executive to run the TV company, whose first major endeavor will be an adaptation of novelist Dean Koontz's "The Taking," Daily Variety reported Tuesday.

Like its sister company, Ghost House Pictures, the new TV production group will focus on offering fare intended not only to entertain, but to scare as well.

The new banner gives Raimi a chance to work again with his Ghost House partner Rob Tapert, who he previously teamed up with for the TV series "Xena: Warrior Princess" and "Hercules."

"It's a pretty big range in TV, from something as edgy as 'Masters of Horror' on Showtime to something as soft as 'Ghost Whisperer' on CBS," Hamm explained. "As Rob likes to say, if it goes bump in the night, it probably qualifies."
