Bankrupt Air America could lose Franken

NEW YORK, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- The liberal U.S. radio network Air America could be losing its highest-profile host, Al Franken, after filing for bankruptcy.

The New York Times said Monday that Franken would likely join the roughly 80 affiliates that had abandoned the network, which was launched as a counterpoint to the wide array of talk stations of a conservative bent.

New York-based Air America filed for federal bankruptcy protection on Friday the 13th.

Attempting to stay on the air while it cobbles together a plan to resolve issues with its many creditors, Air America and its corporate parent, Piquant L.L.C., have been involved in numerous imbroglios and infighting, The Times said.

Air America says there are between five and 10 potential buyers that have looked at its books as part of a possible sale.
