LONDON, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- British comedian Peter Kay is set to break a sales record as his autobiography "The Sound of Laughter" neared 600,000 in sales over the last two months.

The Times of London reported that the book will record the most sales for its type if it tops 700,000 by Christmas, and punctuates the 33-year-old comedian's most recent success in the media.

Just last year, Kay found himself at the top of Britain's music charts with the song "(Is This the Way to) Amarillo," that he recorded with singer Tony Christie for Comic Relief.

In "Laughter," Kay details his journey from a strict Catholic household in his youth to the world of British sitcoms.

The success of his autobiography also represents a new trend in British publishing as male celebrities' find their works far surpassing those of their female counterparts.

This fall alone, The Times said, British sales of literary works by actor Michael Palin and celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay have exceeded those written by actress Billie Piper and former Atomic Kitten singer Kerry Katona.
