Harry Connick creates Christmas special

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- U.S. singer and pianist Harry Connick Jr. has turned one of his songs into an animated Christmas special called the "The Happy Elf."

The New York Daily News reported Saturday that Connick, 39, who has sold more than 25 million albums, took the concept of the original song "The Happy Elf" from the album "Harry for the Holidays," and turned it into the animated film.

Besides being the composer for the film, the New Orleans singer also handles the narration.

"I loved narrating the film, but writing the music was my favorite part. With a film, you can be so creative with the underscoring and songwriting; there are rules, but you can pretty much write anything you want."

"The Happy Elf" airs on Starz starting Sunday.
