SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Dec. 15 (UPI) -- A federal judge in California has refused to block the release of the film "Alpha Dog" despite argument it would bias a trial.
The Los Angeles Times said U.S. District Judge R. Gary Klausner's decision came after an attorney for Jesse James Hollywood had attempted to block the Jan. 12 release of the drama, arguing it would unfairly bias potential jurors when the 26-year-old goes on trial for murder.
Klausner ruled that while "Dog" may be based in part on the murder of a California teenager that Hollywood is accused of masterminding, the film would not likely influence possible jurors in the case.
James Blatt, Hollywood's attorney, argued that the film was made with the assistance of the case's former lead prosecutor, and appealed the judge's action.
"If this motion picture were made without the assistance of the deputy district attorney, naturally we wouldn't like it, but we wouldn't object," Blatt told the Times. "It is the alliance between the prosecution and the motion picture company that we're deeply concerned about."
