WASHINGTON, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- The C-SPAN cable network wants to use its own cameras in the U.S. House of Representatives instead of receiving the usual official live feed.

C-SPAN's request was brought about by concerns that the House camera provides only head-on shots of a speaker, and does not appropriately portray events because of limited angles, TVWeek.com reported.

The cable network has sent an official request to the probable next House speaker, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., for permission to use its own cameras and end the 28-year-old practice of the House providing C-SPAN with a video feed, the report said.

In the letter to Pelosi, C-SPAN chairman Brian Lamb claimed the current practice "has become an anachronism that does a disservice to the institution and to the public."

The network, which also requested access to tallies from the House's electronic voting system, said it will seek the same of the U.S. Senate in 2007.
