LONDON, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Daniel Craig's role as the new James Bond in "Casino Royale" has helped the British actor top a sexiest man poll by condom maker Durex Play.

The 38-year-old actor, who took over the iconic film role from actor Pierce Brosnan, was named as the world's sexiest man by the poll, Zap2it.com reported. Some 4,000 British women participated in the poll.

"Daniel Craig is an obvious choice for the sexiest man on the planet and he has all the attributes that make up a real icon," Durex representative Rosie Lodge admitted. "The scene in 'Casino Royale' where he is frolicking in the sea has caught the attention of women across the world."

Craig beat out actor Clive Owen of "Sin City" and "King Arthur" for the top honor in the poll, while fellow British film star Jude Law pulled into third overall.

The Web site said that while most of the poll's results were British celebrities, the top U.S. entry was "Syriana" star George Clooney, who took fifth place in the poll after Channel 4 broadcaster Steve Jones.
