Special effects help bring 'Web' to life

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- The new Hollywood adaptation of E.B. White's "Charlotte's Web" uses 820 more special effects shots than "Babe," a 1995 movie effects-heavy about a pig.

"Charlotte's Web" also employed several animatronic stand-ins for the story's animal characters, the New York Daily News reported.

All technology aside, the film depends largely on human voices to bring the animal characters to life, and even uses a good number of actual animals as well.

Producers brought in a wide variety of animals, including 47 individual pigs to play the beloved Wilbur.

The voice cast includes Julia Roberts, Robert Redford, Oprah Winfrey and Cedric the Entertainer.
