Doherty's life to become animated series

LONDON, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- The troubled life of British rocker Pete Doherty is set to be adapted for a new animated TV series, "A Boy Called Pete."

The series' creator, Peter Robinson, told the BBC the show will capture the life of the Babyshambles lead singer in a way that will be entertaining -- yet will also discourage the drug addiction problems that have plagued Doherty.

"I don't think anyone could read about the life of Pete Doherty and think doing drugs is a good thing," said Robinson, who would not confirm when or where the series would air.

Robinson previously released "A Boy Named Pete" as a book in November. It has sold nearly 1,000 copies to date, but the TV adaptation has yet to get Doherty's OK.

Besides animating the life of the rocker and his girlfriend, model Kate Moss, the BBC said Robinson is set to produce additional new animated projects based on the lives of such celebrities as singers Kylie Minogue and John Lennon.
