BEIJING, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Action movie star Jet Li will appear in Chinese director Peter Ho-Sun Chan's new movie "Ci Ma," but not as a martial artist.
The film recounts the relationships of three blood brothers who become divided by the love of a woman, China's Xinhua news service reported. The $40 million production of "Ci Ma," which began shooting in Beijing on Dec. 1, is adapted from one of the most well known criminal cases in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
The film's title translates to "The Assassination of Ma," and tells the story of three brothers' bitter rivalry over a woman.
Jet Li is set to play the role of the eldest brother, Ma, who ends up dying at the hand of his youngest brother.
"The director told me it is not a kung fu movie but an antiwar one, because he knew I no longer want to act in martial arts movies," Li said at a news conference in Beijing.
