LOS ANGELES, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Gospel singer Kirk Franklin is set to take his life story to the big screen for the upcoming U.S. film, "Church Boy."
The Hollywood Reporter said the "God's Property" singer will play himself in the Lionsgate film and will also compose the production's soundtrack.
Both projects have been given a tentative 2008 release date after film production begins next year.
"Church Boy" will depict how Franklin overcame an absentee mother and teenage years filled with sex and drugs to become a highly-successful gospel singer and founder of Fo Yo Soul Entertainment.
The paper said Franklin's entertainment group includes a record label, a youth ministry, an advertisement agency, a youth outreach initiative and a production company.
