Bill Cosby: Parents should lead by example

DETROIT, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- During an appearance at Detroit's Triumph Missionary Baptist Church, comedian Bill Cosby urged those in attendance to lead their children by example.

The 69-year-old comedian spoke to nearly 300 people at the Sunday event and reinforced the importance of responsible parents in a child's life, The Detroit Free Press reported.

Cosby said if parents abuse their roles by gratifying their personal desires, they aren't set setting a positive example for their children to live by.

The Sunday event was the most recent in the area for Cosby, whose own childhood with a single mother and absentee father gave him a unique insight into the familial trend, and this time the comedian brought assistance.

The paper said that Cosby was joined at the church by Detroit Police Chief Ella Bully-Cummings, financial analyst Gail Perry Mason and area psychologist Dr. Norma Madison.
