Clive Barker unearthing Poe for big screen

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- British horror author Clive Barker is partnering with Walden Media for a film thriller about the ghost of iconic U.S. writer Edgar Allen Poe.

The "Imajica" author, who has built a reputation based on horror novels, joined with the family-oriented studio to create the film thriller for young adults and help reintroduce Poe to a new generation, the Hollywood Reporter said.

"By focusing on mood and atmosphere rather than blood and guts, Clive Barker brings a smart, literate take on the horror genre that will expose young audiences to its great literary underpinnings," Walden Media exec Alex Schwartz said of the endeavor.

The film will mark the most recent attempt by Barker to branch into a younger market following his 1992 novel "The Thief of Always" and his ongoing children's fantasy series, "Abarat."

Still the author has not forgotten his horror roots. Barker recently agreed to write and produce a Dimension Films remake of 1987's "Hellraiser," that was originally based on his novel, "The Hellbound Heart."
